You've successfully hopped over potholes, dodged taxicabs, and run the gauntlet of jaywalkers. In other words, you've biked to work. So where do you park?
The New York Times published a story today about that daily bicycle commuter dilemma.
We're working on incorporating bike parking facilities into Ride the City. We'd be interested in hearing your thoughts about what kind of information we should show about each bike parking location and how we should show it. Please let us know your ideas by using the feedback form, or email us at info@ridethecity.com.

At least for biking to work, those of us with folding bikes can very easily park them under our desks. I bought the bag for the Dahon, it also helps at home with keeping road grime off the floor and safely in the bag with the bike. I'm loving this as a means of commuting and getting a bit of exercise.
Unfortunately, I can't say I've really tried walking into too many stores and restaurants with the bike. It's not a problem at New York Academy of Sciences lectures. I have no idea whether some restaurants may be able to take it into the coat check, for example.

The lack of secure bike parking definitely is a key impediment to riding around the city casually. I wish we had those automated bike parking structures like they have in Japan.

I came back from a 11-day Japan trip on Sunday, and I remember seeing exactly one automated bike parking structure. With their low crime rates, they generally simply leave bikes in assigned spaces on the street, in the best case locking one of the wheels (to prevent it from turning). Unfortunately, we don't have this luxury in New York.
